Ringmore House has been standing near the waters of the River Teign estuary since 1770, with possible earlier origins dating from 1680. The house is Grade 11 listed, and the current owners, Robert and Helen Scull have restored the house and recovered many original features-fire places in the bedrooms unseen for over 50 years, internal window shutters, fire cupboards and alcoves.

Ringmore is an easy flat walk upriver from Shaldon, a beautiful valley with many thatched properties along tiny winding lanes, many dating from the 15th century, exploring is a delight, and a visit to the tiny church of St.Nicholas is rewarding, with it’s pre-Saxon font. A church has stood on this site since the 7th Century.

The livelihood of Shaldon is based around the estuary with it’s beaches-holiday makers, fishing, boating and cottage industries, whilst the town of Teignmouth on the opposite shore is a still busy and thriving port. In addition to the main road bridge across the river, Teignmouth can also be reached by the foot ferry which operates from the river beach-a ferry that has been in existence seen the 13th century-the present ferry was modernised in 1909 by being motorised !!

Shaldon boasts many interests-there are Botanical gardens at the top of the village, the coastal path winds up over the cliffs towards Torquay. The Shaldon wildlife Trust cares for various small creaturs, and an 18 holeapproach golf course may be found on the cliff . In addition to the estuary beaches, a smugglers tunnel leads to Ness Cove, a sheltered sandy beach.
